Tulip Square Shopper Bag

Crochet this granny square bag which is made out of 3 squares folded in half and joined together. You can make the bag as big as you want by simply repeating 3 rows as many times as you want. I used Lion Brand Hue + Me which works up very fast. This crochet granny square bag is a beginner-friendly pattern and includes a video tutorial.

About this pattern

After the success of my ‘Tulips from Holland‘ square, I decided to turn this popular stitch pattern into a triangle shawlcrop topshrug, poncho and now a bag!

This granny square bag pattern is made out of 3 large ‘Tulips from Holland’ Squares. The square features chains, double crochet and puff stitches. The squares are folded in half and sewn together.

You can find my tutorial for the invisible seam here.

Or check out my video tutorial below to see how you can slip stitch the squares together. It’s easier, faster and creates a beautiful ribbing.

A video tutorial for adding a fabric lining can be found here.

About the yarn

For this bag I used 2 balls of Hue + Me which is bulky weight yarn. This yarn is available in beautiful colors and works up very fast. You can use any yarn you like, just make sure to use a matching hook size for your yarn.

How to transform 3 granny squares into a bag

Joining squares together

Join squares together using your preferred method. I used the slip stitch method which you can see in my video tutorial above.

You can also use the ‘invisible seam method’, you can find a tutorial here.

Straps

Row 1:
With bag laying flat in front of you, join yarn in right ch-2 space and work 3 sc into ch-2 space, ch 1, turn <3>

Row 2:
1 sc in each st across, ch 1, turn <3>

Repeat row 2 until row 60 or until strap measures 14″ / 35.5 cm.

Attach end of strap to left corner (ch-2 sp) with 3 single crochet stitches worked through both loops.

Fabric lining

Personally I prefer to add some lining, so I cut a piece of black fabrics in the same size as my bag and sewed onto the bag with needle and thread. You can also use an old t-shirt.

A video tutorial can be found here.
