Crochet Pattern: Totoro Beanies
Totoro! A cartoon that is loved by both young and old. Now you can make these adorable beanies to keep your head warm from the cold! The above beanies are for adults. There will be a kid’s version at the later part of this pattern. Are you ready?
Let’s begin! :)
Materials:
Yarn(s) - Grey, White, Black and Dark Green 8ply Acrylic Yarn.
Crochet Hook - Size 5.5mm and 3.5mm
Yarn Needle
Tapestry Needle
Tapestry Thread (preferably same colour as the yarn used)
Stitch Marker or Safety Pin
White Felt
Fabric Glue
Scissors
Note:
1) This pattern works in joined rounds (instead of continuous rounds).
2) Always start your rounds in the same stitch as your chain.
3) Always join your rounds to the first DC, NOT the chain.
4) Your last stitch should be in the stitch before your chain.

Totoro Beanie:
Grey Yarn, 5.5mm hook.

Grey Yarn, 5.5mm Hook.
Row 1: Chain 1, sc in next 12, chain 1 and turn. (12)

With Grey Yarn, sc around hat and earflaps, F/O and weave in the ends.
Braided Tails:
Cut 24 strands of Grey Yarn (90cm each), separate them into 12 strands for each sides respectively. Attach the strands through towards the bottom of the earflap. Make a knot and braid to desired length, knot again and trim the ends.
Totoro Ears: (make 2)
Grey Yarn, 5.5mm hook.
Rnd 1: MR, Ch 2, 9 dc in MR, join to first dc, ch 2. (9)

Black Yarn, 3.5mm Hook.

Black Yarn, 3.5mm Hook.
Ch 5.
Row 1: sc 2nd ch from hook across. ch 1 and turn. (4)
Row 2: inc, sc 2, inc. (6)

Totoro Whiskers: (make 6)
Black Yarn, 3.5mm Hook.
Ch 10.

Assembling: (refer to picture)
- Sew both ears on Rnd 4 of Totoro beanie.
- Sew the pupil to the eye and sew them starting on Rnd 8 of the beanie.
- Sew on the nose between Rnd 10 and 11 of the beanie and the whiskers at the sides.
- Cut out a smile using white felt. Cut 5 strands of black felt and glue them onto the white felt. Let it dry for awhile before gluing the entire smile to the beanie.

Assembling: (refer to picture)
- Sew both ears on Rnd 4 of Totoro beanie.
- Attach the stem to the clover leaf and sew onto the top of the beanie.
- Sew the pupil to the eye and sew them starting on Rnd 9 of the beanie.
- Sew on the nose between Rnd 13 and 14 of the beanie and the whiskers at the sides.
