Racing Summer Tank Crochet Pattern

Summer is in full swing here and I knew I needed to design a comfy tank top to wear! The Racing Summer Tank crochet pattern is light weight, soft and quick to make! It has a cropped look to it but you can easily make it as long as you want! It’s racerback style on the back with spaghetti straps!

I used your typical single crochet V-St for this tank top. What’s a V Stitch? Sc, Ch 1, Sc all into the same space! You will work your V St into the V from the row below! Then just repeat throughout the pattern. Easy peasy. If you want a bit more length just repeat the V St row right before the shaping on the front panel. Be sure to add the same amount of rows to the back as well.

Pair it with some cute jean shorts or a long flowy skirt! The Coboo yarn I used comes in so many nice colors, so you have tons of options! Grabbing the kit from Lion Brand is such a good deal. Basically you are just paying for the yarn and you get the printable PDF for free! They usually have a sale or coupon code running so you can grab it even cheaper! Make sure you subscribe to my email newsletter, I frequently notify about these good deals!

Rows 4-39(39, 41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53): Repeat Row 3.

Note- for a longer length tank top, add more rows here in multiples of 2 before moving onto the decrease rows. Be aware that your yarn requirements will change.

Note- size XS, skip the next row and go directly to the following row.

Rows 42(43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53, 55, 57)- 47(48, 50, 54, 58, 60, 64, 68, 72): Repeat the previous 2 rows, decreasing by 2 V-St with every 2 rows. You will end with 13(14, 15, 16, 16, 18, 19, 18, 18 V-St) and 2 Sc)

Note- The left side of your decrease rows will have a slightly jagged look to it compared to the other side which will be straight. This is normal and we will stitch over it later when we add the trim and straps.

Tie off.

Back Panel-

Repeat Rows 1-39(39, 41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53) of front panel.

Tie off. Don’t forget to turn after the last row made.

Note- for a longer length tank top, add more rows here in multiples of 2 before moving onto the decrease rows. Be aware that your yarn requirements will change.

Count 8(9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20) V-Sts in from the right hand side of your back panel. Into the left leg of that 8th(9th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 20th) V-St, join yarn with a Sl St.

Row 40(40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54): Ch 1, 1 Sc in same St as join, V-St into the next 5(6, 7, 6, 6, 8, 7, 8, 8) Ch-2 Sp’s across, Sk 1 Sc, 1 Sc in next, turn. (5(6, 7, 6, 6, 8, 7, 8, 8) V-St and 2 Sc)

Rows 41(41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53, 55)- 52(52, 54, 56, 60, 62, 66, 70, 74): Repeat Row 3.

Tie off.

Seam Sides-

Block your panels to the measurements above, using your preferred method.

Place your front and back panel together, RS facing. Join yarn at the bottom hem and using your method of choice, seam up until you reach Row 39(39, 41, 43, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53) of the back panel. I like to use my hook and Sl St the panels together. Do this on both sides.

Add Straps-

Turn your tank top RS out and your front panel facing up. Join yarn with a Sl St at the seam you just made on the right hand side. Sl St evenly up the side of the decreased rows on your front panel until you reach the top right corner. Ch 33(35, 35, 35, 35, 37, 37, 37, 39) without twisting your Ch, Sl St to join in the top right corner of the last row on your back panel. Turn your tank top and Sl St in each Ch back down, Sl St into the corner St where your first Ch was made, to join. Tie off.

Note- if you notice you need a longer or shorter Ch length for your strap, you can adjust your Ch count listed above to fit your needs. Make sure you Ch the same amount on the other side.

Opposite Strap-

With your tank top RS up, join yarn with a Sl St to left corner of the last row of your front panel. Ch 33(35, 35, 35, 35, 37, 37, 37, 39) without twisting your Ch, Sl St to join in the top left corner of the last row on your back panel. Turn your tank top and Sl St back down the Ch, when you reach your first Ch made, keep going, Sl St evenly down the side of the decreased rows on your front panel until you reach the left side seam.

Tie off.

Weave in all ends.
