The North Winds Set

The North Winds Set is here! I’m thinking It’s going to be great for Christmas gifts this year. Beginner friendly and fast to make but also kept my interest throughout with the subtle stitch changes!

The striping on the scarf and beanie are my favorite part. And believe it or not, I had almost no ends to weave in when I was finished! Every time I had a color change for the scarf I cut the yarn, tied a knot and worked my stitches directly over the ends. This worked out amazingly and I’m so glad I did it so I had wayyy less ends to weave when I was done!

Heartland yarn is one of my favorites and It’s what I used for both patterns! The yardage listed below is enough to make at least 1 hat and 1 beanie, including a pom and fringe!

I made a full video tutorial for both patterns as well. You can find the beanie tutorial here and the scarf tutorial here. Be sure to check them out if you need any extra help!

Materials:

  • Worsted weight (4) yarn, Lion Brand Heartland- Acadia (2 skeins, 445 yards), Glacier Bay (1 skein, 100 yards), Yosemite (1 skein, 110 yards), Rocky Mountain (1 skein, 130 yards) (yardage is enough to make 1 beanie and 1 scarf)

  • J/10-6.00mm Crochet Hook

  • Yarn Needle

  • Scissors

  • PomPom (optional)

Gauge:

For beanie and scarf- 4×4”= 13 Dc by 6.5 Dc rows

Sizes:

One size only for both, beanie fits the average adult women’s head.

Finished Measurements:

Beanie- 9.5” W, 9.5” L

Scarf- 9” W, 72” L

Notes:

  • The Ch 2 at the beginning of the rows or rounds do not count as a stitch.

  • The Ch 1 at the beginning of the rows or rounds do not count as a stitch.

  • The yardage listed is enough to make 1 beanie and 1 scarf including a pompom and fringe.

  • You will turn after each round of the main body of the beanie.

  • I recommend cutting and tying your yarn ends after changing colors on the scarf and crocheting directly over them as you go. That way you have less ends to weave in when you are finished.

  • The numbers in the parenthesis at the end of rows/rounds is your stitch count.

Row 1: 1 Sl St in the second Ch from the hook and in each Ch across, turn (10 Sl St)

Rows 2-114: Ch 1, 1 Sl St (BLO) in each St across, turn.

Do not tie off. Fold your ribbing in half to join the first and last row together. Working through both the first and last row in the outer loops only, Sl St in each St across. When you get to the end, turn your ribbing right side out so that the seam you just made is on the inside of the hat. You will now be working the first round of the hat into the ends of the rows of the ribbing. Tip- When you stretch the ribbing you can see little ridges/bumps, you will be working your stitches in between these for round 1.

Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count), 1 Hdc into the same space, continue with 1 Hdc into the end of the row in between each “ridge” of the ribbing around, Sl St to the top of the first Hdc made and switch to Color B, turn. (57 Hdc)
