About the C2C Crochet Scarf Pattern

I have been a fan of the c2c crochet technique for so many years and have loved designing all sorts of things including cushions and blankets and it’s so much fun to get detail in the design.

I love that you can really play with geometric designs and I had the idea for the Diamond Trees Scarf in my head for so long and am so thrilled with how it turned out!

To make life easier, I designed it so that you create it in three square panels of c2c crochet, one plain one for the centre and then two patterned ones for either end.

You can of course make the whole thing in one if you’d prefer but if you’re just starting out with the technique then make sure to check out my beginner’s guide to c2c crochet to start with.

Making the three panels might feel a bit more manageable once you’ve read that and I’d definitely start with the plain centre one first rather than use two colours to begin with.

Once you’ve created the crochet scarf itself, you just need to add some oversized tassels to the ends and there you have it! A fabulously comfy and cosy winter scarf.

Here are some more of my c2c crochet pattern designs that I thought you’d like to see – I have lots more planned for the blog soon too!

Yarn

To make the Diamond Trees c2c crochet scarf I used Deramores Studio Aran which is 100% acrylic, 165m/100g and a lovely yarn to work with.

You will need 3 balls of Ash and 2 balls of Marigold to make the crochet scarf.

A great alternative yarn is Might Stitch Yarn by WeCrochet which is 20% Superwash wool, 80% acrylic, 190m/100g. The portion of super wash wool in it makes it a lovely choice to keep you warm and cozy too.

Tension and Sizing

5 c2c crochet square reps = 10cm by 10cm but tension isn’t essential for this project.

The finished scarf measures 40cm by 141cm without tassels.

Pattern Notes

The pattern is worked using a corner-to-corner construction method in blocks of (ch3, 3tr) in same sp.

Each ‘row’ is made up of a diagonal row of blocks, starting with one block in the bottom right-hand corner, increasing to two blocks on the next row, 3 blocks on the following etc.

When you reach the desired width of each panel you then work one fewer block on each row, working backwards to the top left-hand corner.

The chart provided shows colour changes and the placement of the three panels (21 by 21 C2C squares) as they should be joined. You will make one plain panel in Ash and two identical panels in Ash and Marigold as per the charts.

The three panels are then seamed together and the tassels are added to complete the scarf.

If you prefer, you can work the scarf in one entire piece using the charts.

Diamond Trees C2C Crochet Scarf Pattern

Watch my video tutorial to see how I change colours neatly in C2C crochet patterns.

Make three c2c panels of 21 x 21 squares following the chart (you can download this above) and this method: (if you are new to C2C then I would work the plain panel first)

Throughout the pattern, the term ‘stitch’ refers to a UK tr/US dc.

Foundation chain: ch6

Row 1: (RS): stitch in 4th ch from hook and each of next 2ch

Row 2: ch6, stitch in 4th ch from hook and each of next 2ch, (ss, ch3, 3 stitches) in ch3-sp of previous row

Row 3: ch6, stitch in 4th ch from hook and each of next 2ch, [(ss, ch3, 3 stitches ) in next ch3-sp of previous row] twice

Row 4: ch6, stitch in 4th ch from hook and each of next 2ch, [(ss, ch3, 3 stitches) in next ch3-sp of previous row] three times

Rows 5-21: Continue to increase in this way following the colour changes in the chart until you reach the corner.

First decrease row: When using same colour, ss in each of 3 sts just made then ss into first ch3-sp OR if changing colour, join yarn to first ch3-sp, then continue *(ss, ch3, 3 stitches) in next ch3-sp of previous row, rep from * to last ch3-sp, ss in last ch3-sp, break yarn.

Repeat decrease row until the panel is complete.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Join the three panels –

Lay the three panels out as shown and with WS facing, sew together to join scarf together.

Tassels –

Make twelve tassels (six for each end of the scarf) approx 12cm long and attach evenly along each end of the scarf to finish.
