I am so excited to share with you my latest free pattern – the Textured 3-Button Cardigan! This is a raglan style cardigan, crocheted from the top down with no seams! To give this cardigan some beautiful texture, the classic bean stitch is used in the body and in the trim. The closure is offset and finished with three buttons. I absolutely love this textured cardigan and I hope you will too!
I made mine using Caron Simply Soft yarn. However, any worsted weight yarn should work, just remember to check your gauge. The Textured 3-Button Cardigan can be customized to your preferred length. I made mine full length, but I think it would look fantastic as a cropped cardigan!

Splitting the Yoke:
Row 27:
Ch 1, hdc in each st to one st before the first stitch marker, hdc2tog this st with the 1st st after the second stitch marker, hdc in each st to one st before the third stitch marker, hdc2tog this st with the 1st st after the fourth stitch marker, hdc in each st across, turn. (117, 129, 143, 157, 169, 175) sts.
Main Body:
Row 28:
Ch 1, hdc in same st, ch 1, skip st, *bean stitch, skip st; repeat from * across, ending with hdc in last st, turn.
Row 29:
Ch 1, hdc in same st, ch 1, *bean stitch in each bean stitch from the row below (skipping the ch-1 which closes each bean stitch); repeat from * across, ending with hdc in last st, turn.
Repeat row 29 until you reach your desired length, ending on a RS row. Do not fasten off.
To work the edging and buttonholes:
With RS facing, start at the lower side of the front of the cardigan (where you just left off working the final row of the body). Ch 1, hdc in same st, and work hdc’s spaced evenly up the front side of the cardigan until you get to the rows worked in hdc, [ch 2, skip 2], evenly space (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10) hdc, [ch 2,skip 2], evenly space (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10) hdc, [ch 2, skip 2], [hdc, ch 1, hdc] in corner st, work bean stitch around the collar, [hdc, ch 1, hdc] in corner st, work hdc’s spaced evenly down the opposite side of the front of the cardigan, [hdc, ch 1, hdc] in corner st, hdc in each st along the bottom of the cardigan. Fasten off.
For the sleeves:
Round 1:
With WS facing, re-attach yarn in the center of the bottom of each armhole (where the rough edges are), ch 1, hdc in same st and hdc evenly around, sl st to beginning hdc, turn. (44, 49, 54, 58, 63, 64) sts.
Round 2:
Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around until last 2 sts, hdc2tog, sl st to beginning hdc, turn.
Round 3:
Ch 1, hdc in same st and each st around, sl st to beginning hdc, turn.
Round 4:
Repeat round 2.
Continue repeating rounds 3 & 4 until your sleeves of your textured cardigan are the desired length, ending on a WS round. Turn work, then with RS facing, work 1 round of bean stitch (like row 28).
This pattern calls for a decrease every other round. However, be mindful of your sleeve width as you work. If your sleeve begins to get too narrow for your liking, you may either stop decreasing entirely, or you may decrease every 3 or more rounds. Whatever you do, be sure to write down what you did on the first sleeve so that you can make the second sleeve match!
Fasten off, weave in all ends. Sew buttons on to correspond with the alignment of the buttonholes.

I can imagine the disappointment when a pattern is at a higher level or they are beginners although I am fairly good at crocheting there is some patterns I wish there was a video to help me imagine and do a particular stitch. Even so no matter what level you are or the pattern if you are not able to do a pattern I suggest that you keep working at your skill after saving the pattern for later. This is what I do. If we request help I am sure the person who wrote the pattern should be able to help or will hopefully at a later stage make a video to help us complete the beautiful pattern they have produced. I think I should be able to do this pattern after reading and going through it but you never know I may have to put it aside for later.
