About

The Summer Haze Tee is worked in two sections. One front and one back, which are seamed together. After seaming them together you have the option to add short sleeves to make it a tee.

Remember that it is crucial to check gauge to get the size as provided in the size chart. Working with a different yarn weight etc. might affect the fit of the garment. The gauge is the key to get the fit correct!

This pattern is written using US terminology.

Chains do not count as stitches.

Only change color when implied to do so. Most of the rows uses the main color and if not mentioned, assume it is the main color to use.

Gauge (10x10cm / 4x4”): 16 hdc across 12 rows of hdc

The Pattern

Don’t forget that you can get an inexpensive printable pdf here or watch the class on the YouTube!
By getting the pdf you support my work as a designer. Thank you!

Begin the tee by checking your gauge. I recommend that you make your gauge swatch a few stitches wider so that you don’t measure the stitches on the edges. For example ch 23, HDC in the third ch from the hook. HDC across, ch 2, turn (21 sts).  Measure your swatch in the middle. You should have 16 HDC over 12 rows for 10x10cm / 4x4”. Adjust hook size if needed.

Body Sections
Make 2.

Begin: With the main color: Leave a long tail for sewing the shoulders. Chain 66 (74, 82, 90, 98, 106, 114, 122, 130)

Row 1:  HDC in the third ch from the hook. HDC across row. Ch 2. Turn. 64 (72, 80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120, 128) sts

Row 2: HDC across row. Cut off the main color. With the contrast color, Ch 6. Turn. 64 (72, 80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120, 128) sts

Row 3: 3 DC-CL in the first stitch. Skip 2 sts, DC. *Ch 2, skip next st, SC, ch 2, skip next st, (DC, ch 3, 3 DC-CL) in same stitch, skip 3 sts, DC* repeat *-* until 4 last sts. Ch 2, skip next st, SC, ch 2, skip next st, DC in last ch. Ch 6. Turn.

Row 4: 3 DC-CL in the final DC from the previous row. *skip stitches (i.e. you skip 2ch+sc+2ch) and DC in the next DC from previous row, ch 2, SC in next ch-3 space, ch 2, (DC, ch 3, 3 DC-CL) in next DC* repeat *-* until last DC, ch 2, SC in turning ch space, ch 2, DC in third chain of turning chain. Ch 6. Turn.

Row 5 - 9 (or longer if you prefer more lace): Repeat row 4. In the end of row 9, cut off the contrast color before ch 6. Change to the main color and ch 2 instead of 6. Turn.

Row 10: HDC in the final DC from the previous row, *HDC in the ch 2 sp, HDC in SC, HDC in the ch 2 sp, HDC in DC, HDC in the 3 DC-CL, 2 HDC in the ch 3 sp, HDC in DC* repeat across (i.e. a total of 8 HDCs per pattern repeat) ending with a HDC in the ch 6 sp, HDC in the 3rd turning ch. Ch 2. Turn. 64 (72, 80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120, 128) sts

Row 11: HDC across row. Ch 2. Turn. 64 (72, 80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120, 128) sts

Row 12: Repeat row 11 until your work measures 52 cm / 20.5” (54 cm / 21.3”, 54 cm / 21.3”, 56 cm / 22”, 58 cm / 22.8”, 58 cm / 22.8

Turn your work sideways, ch 1, and crochet SC across all 4 edges. The side where you crochet the SCs will now be the right side (side facing out).

Crochet the SC as evenly as possible around. 1-2 SC per HDC row. In the lace, around 2-3 HDC in the chain spaces and 1 HDC in DCs. It might be helpful to add 2 SC in every corner so that they do not curl.

After crocheting SCs evenly all the way around: Join to the first SC with a sl st and cut off yarn (leave a long tail for sewing the side).

Sewing

With the wrong side facing up on the back section, place the front section on top with the right side facing out (i.e. wrong side towards wrong side). Sew together the sides and shoulders using the mattress stitch. If you want you can begin sewing a bit up on the sides to allow room for the hips and get a nice opening on the sides. On the sample the seam begins around 10 cm / 3.5” up. Leave openings for the sleeves and head as below:

Sleeves: measure 16 (17, 18, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26) cm / 6.3 ( 6.7, 7.1 7.9, 8.7, 9.1, 9.4, 9.8, 10.2)” from the top down to leave for the sleeves.

Follow on me on Instagram @coffeeandcrocheting

Neck opening: leave an opening of at least 18 (19, 20, 21, 22, 22, 23, 24, 25) cm / 7.1 (7.5, 7.9, 8.3, 8.7, 8.7, 9.1, 9.4, 9.8)” or as according to preference, in the middle. I recommend placing stitch markers here and try it on before sewing. That way you can adjust the sleeve and neck opening as you wish before sewing.

The mattress stitch is sewn on the right side like lacing a shoelace. Go under the back loop of the SC on the other side, pull tight. Cross over to other side going under the back loop of the SC. Repeat across.

Sleeves

You could either leave it as a top or add short sleeves to make it a tee. Write down how you adjust the sleeve with decrease rounds and how many stitches you begin with, so that it is easy to repeat on the other side.

To add sleeves, attach your yarn on the inside in the bottom of the arm opening. Crochet HDCs around the arm opening, one in each SC. How many HDCs you’ll have depends on how many SCs you spaced out. A guideline is 51 (54, 58, 64, 70, 74, 77, 80, 83) sts. If you have more stitches, you can make decrease rounds on following rounds, so don’t worry about it. Join to the first HDC of the round with a sl st. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 2-9 (or more if you prefer a longer sleeve): HDC around. Join to the first st of the round with a sl st. Ch 1. Turn.

Decrease round: every decrease round decreases the st count by 2 sts. Add decrease rounds as you wish (on the row 2-9 repeat) to tighten the sleeves. I made every second round a decrease round. HDC2tog, HDC until the final 2 sts of the round. HDC2tog. Join to the first st of the round with a sl st. Ch 1. Turn.

Row 10: SC around. Join to the first st of the round with a sl st. Fasten off.

Repeat on the other side.

Happy Making!
