summer crochet cardigan

If you are looking for how to crochet a cardigan that is great for a layering piece for these chilly summer mornings or nights The Summer crochet cardigan is the perfect project to crochet. This Summer crochet cardigan is the perfect pattern if you are a beginner and you want to learn how to crochet a lace stitch that looks gorgeous and is not very hard to crochet. The pattern only uses two stitches: single crochet and double crochet.

The Summer crochet long cardigan is an oversized cardigan free pattern. So if you are looking for how to crochet a cardigan plus size this one will work perfectly for you, it has 120 cm/47.2 inches circumference. Also is very easy to adjust the pattern for your size to fit you perfectly. I’m size S, and I love how this oversize crochet cardigan looks on me, I designed it especially like this because I love that big, oversized, and comfy cardigans which are so in trend right now.

I think you can wear the Summer crochet cardigan with just about everything, especially with jeans, my favorite look for the days spent on my couch crocheting or knitting and drinking coffee. Also, it will look cool with a belt, or just wear it like a crochet kimono cover-up.

For my Summer crochet cardigan, I’ve used almost 500 g of this (50g= 170m/ 1.76oz= 185 yards) and a 3.5 mm hook.

This is a very high-quality cotton yarn.

This yarn is made from 100% combed Turkish cotton, which is soft, flexible, and exceptionally durable. Textiles in Turkish cotton stay beautiful for many years and only get softer with use. This yarn also excels when it comes to its absorbing powers, but is quick-drying at the same time.

The color chart includes plenty of gorgeous colors, you just have to decide what color you like and get started. Here you can buy this yarn:

Repeat rows 94-101 until the front panel has the same length as the back panel (in total 177 rows-the back panel and the front panel).

Crochet the second front panel exactly like the first one, but start the first row (row 90) from the inside of the neckline (see the chart).

Crochet single crochet stitches all around the front panels and around the back panel. Make sure to crochet the single crochet edge on every side.

Next, we will crochet the textured edge on the left and right sides of the cardigan, these edges will form the sleeves too.

How to crochet the extended single crochet stitch:

  1. Begin with a length of chains. Insert the hook in the 3rd chain from the hook, yarn over the hook, and pull the new loop through the chain.
  2. Yarn over the hook, and pull it through the first loop only.
  3. You now have two loops on the hook. Yarn over the hook again, and pull it through both loops.
  4. One loop remains on the hook, which means you just made an extended single crochet stitch. Repeat from step 1 for each of the next chains to the end to complete the row.
The textured edge:
Row 1: ch2, crochet 1 extended single crochet stitch in every next stitch until the end of the row.

Repeat row 1 until you have 7 rows.

After you’ve finished the last row, secure the last stitch and sew the edges together. Leave enough space for the arm. You can make the arm hole as big as you want (mine is 48 cm/ almost 19 inches in circumference).

Repeat for the second edge.

cardigan

The ribbing for the bottom:

Crochet 21 chains.
Row 1: hdc in 2nd chain from the hook, continue to crochet hdc in every next chain until the end of the row. You should have 20 stitches.
Row 2: ch 1 (don’t count as a stitch), hdc in the back loop of every next stitch until the end of the row. You should have 20 stitches.
Repeat row 2 around the bottom of the cardigan until you get to the second edge.

Secure the last stitch, cut the yarn and weave in the end.

The ribbing for the collar:

Start from the bottom of the cardigan and crochet the ribbing directly on the cardigan all around the edge.

Make 11 chains.
