***March 5th, 2021: Mistake on Row 6 found. Changes made.***

As May rolls in, all I can think about is summer and getting to wear some of my cutest clothes. Not to mention all the summer festivals that should be coming my way! Montreal apparently has quite a few summer festivals, so what a great time to get my crochet hook working on a new Festival Top!

I wanted something light and airy, but also something that gave me some coverage on my tummy. I’m not averse to showing a little skin, but I like to leave a little mystery too! lol. With that in mind, I struck out to make a festival top that was fun and flirty, but still provided some coverage to what I consider a problem area on my body. That meant I wanted a bit of a drapey front style. I figured I’d get started making the bra cups of the tops and eventually the bottom portion would come to me.

I was really inspired by the beauty of stained glass, especially the famous Rose Window of the Notre Dame cathedral. I had been planning this top in my head for a few days but actually started it the day the fire broke out. I had just finished the cups when my husband sent me the link to the live feed of the news and then had to put the piece away because I couldn’t concentrate on the top any longer. The next day, after seeing how the beautiful and iconic Rose Window had miraculously survived the devastating fire, I decided on what pattern I wanted to try for the bottom portion of the top.

I tried my best to capture a small portion of the beauty of that stained glass silhouette. I think I did a pretty Ok job! So, I hope you enjoy the top as much as I enjoyed designing it!

Happy Crocheting!
