Tapestry Crochet Squirrel Potholder – Free Pattern

While I craft my way out of winter and cold snow, the number of potholder patterns in my Farmhouse Collection seems to be growing fast! The latest addition to the collection is this Tapestry Crochet Squirrel Potholder.

Tapestry Crochet Squirrel Potholder - Free Crochet Pattern - Raffamusa Designs

I’ve had the idea of making a squirrel for a while but I was not entirely sure it would be in theme. The question is real, would you consider a squirrel part of a farmhouse?

However, a few weeks ago, I received an e-mail from a nice lady asking if, by any chance, I happened to have a squirrel potholder.

I couldn’t have had a better motivation to get to work and make a cute little squirrel for the collection!

Make sure to check all the patterns of my Farmhouse Collection and if you cannot find your favorite animal, make sure to drop me an e-mail with your request!

PATTERN NOTES

  • The pattern is written in two sections. The Potholder is worked in rows, then the Border is worked in rounds.
  • The potholder is worked entirely in sc.
  • If the pattern says “(A) 5”, it means that with color A, you need to make one single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches.
  • Turn your work at the end of each row.
  • The starting ch 1 counts as your first stitch and is always made with A.
  • All uneven-numbered rows are crocheted on the right side. All even-numbered rows are crocheted on the wrong side.
  • (…) – Repeat the instructions within brackets for the indicated number of times.
  • With the exception of the border, the stitch count is always 45 sts.
  • The color chart of the potholder is in the PDF file.

  1. Thank you for another cute addition to your Farmhouse collection of potholders! I’m making for my “budding chef” granddaughters.
Thank you, too, for your clarity and examples in your instructions. They are oh-so-helpful when trying to stretch one’s abilities.
Stay well. Congratulations on your new web design though I found your prior design most acceptable😊.

  2. I love your designs so much. I am a bit confused. I just made the squirrel pattern. I used the yarn you suggested. The Potholder seems very thin to me. Is this supposed to be 2 layered? I don’t make potholders, so maybe I’m missing something in the directions. Rightside/wrongside. And the directions for the edging, “Picot 3 times, Front Loop Only, Slip Stitch in the last sc” part to be exact is confusing. when I do it how I think the decorations are reading, it doesn’t look right to me. I do really well with video explaination versus written with pictures. Do you have any videos that would explain things a little better? Or maybe you know of other peoples video on Youtube that would explain how all this works.

    • Hi Kathy,
Thank you so much for your message.
So, the potholder is kind of thin. When I want to make it thicker, I normally add some cotton fabric on the back. But most of the time, I just use these potholders like they are. The tapestry fabric is very solid, so there is no risk of getting burned.
For the border, I am sorry, I don’t have a video. The slip stitch in the front loop is to kind of anchor the 3 picots.
Anyhow, if this border doesn’t work well for you, maybe you could try any other border from the other Farmhouse Portholders 🙂 You can find them all in one place here https://raffamusadesigns.com/quick-and-easy-crochet-borders-edgings/
      I hope this helped 🙂
      Best,
      Raffaella
