Here is a Spiral Lace Doily Pattern to try. During these summer times, you can make this doily to decorate your dining table and home. This doily also great as a table mat too.
This is a beginner-friendly crochet lace doily pattern made with cotton yarn. If you are new to crochet, see the step by step photo collage at the end of the post.

Skill level: easy
Finished size: 10” diameter
Materials (I used):
4-Medium weight / Worsted / 100% Cotton / Approx: 120 total yards
(You can also use DK weight yarns obtain the gauge below)
(I used)
- Rico Creative Cotton Aran
- 7/ 4.5 mm crochet hook
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends.
- Scissors
Gauge: 17 hdc x 9 rows = 4″ with 7/ 4.5 mm crochet hook
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- st = stitch
- sl st = slip stitch
- sk = skip
- ch-sp = chain space
- sp = space
- beg = beginning
- *to ; = repeat * to the instructions.

Spiral Lace Doily Pattern
Make a magic/adjustable ring.
Round 1: ch 3 (count as dc), 11 dc into the ring, sl st to the beg top 3 chain.
Round 2: ch 4 (count as hdc and ch 2), *hdc in next st, ch 2; repeat *to around, after crocheting last ch 2, sl st to beg top 2 chains. (12 hdc)
Round 3: sl st to the ch-2 sp, ch 3 (count as dc), (dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in same sp, *ch 1, (2 dc, ch 2, 1dc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat * to around, after crocheting last ch 1 in repeat section, sl st to the beg top 3 chain. Before starting next round, sl st until chain space.
Round 4: ch 3 (count as dc), (dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in same space, *ch 2, (2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat * to around, after crocheting last ch 2 in repeat section, sl st to the beg top 3 chain. Before starting next round, sl st until chain space.
Round 5: ch 3 (count as dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in same space, *ch 1, sl st to the next ch-2 sp, ch 3, (3 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat *to around, after crocheting last ch 3 in repeat section, sl st to the beg top 3 chain. Before starting next round, sl st until chain space.
Round 6: ch 3 (count as dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in same space, *ch 2, sl st to the next ch-3 sp, ch 4, (3 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat *to around, after crocheting last ch 4 in repeat section, sl st to the beg top 3 chain. Before starting next round, sl st until chain space.
Round 7: ch 3 (count as dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in same space, *ch 2, sl st to the next ch-4 sp, ch 5, (3 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat *to around, after crocheting last ch 5 in repeat section, sl st to the beg top 3 chain. Before starting next round, sl st until chain space.
Round 8: ch 3 (count as dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in same space, *ch 2, sl st to the next ch-5 sp, ch 5, (3 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat *to around, after crocheting last ch 5 in repeat section, sl st to the beg top 3 chain. Before starting next round, sl st until chain space.
Round 9: ch 3 (count as dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in same space, *ch 2, sl st to the next ch-5 sp, ch 6, (3 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat *to around, after crocheting last ch 6 in repeat section, sl st to the beg top 3 chain. Before starting next round, sl st until chain space.
Edging: ch 1, sc in beg ch 3 top, sc in next 2 sts, *2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next dc, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, 5 sc in next ch-6 sp, sc in each of next 3 dc; repeat * to around, sl st to the first st.

This is so beautiful! Do you think that I could just continue the rounds and use a thicker yarn to turn this into an afghan? Also, this could be really pretty as a table cloth.

I am totally making these for my entertainment cabinets and maybe if I make a few, I can make a table runner! So cool using cotton yarn and a 4.5 mm hook!

This is such a lovely pattern. I am so delighted that you shared. I was given a huge bagful of #10 cotton thread over a year ago. When I saw this pattern, I knew it was time to use some with this pattern. After making the first one, I just stared at the beauty and delicateness of the pattern. I crocheted another one today and it too is so outstanding and beautiful. I need to make a few more as I am in awe of the intricacies. My plan is to make several for Christmas gifts. Thread doilies seem to be a lost art of decorating. We can bring it back! I also have a lot of 4 ply cotton. That will be next. Thank you so much for sharing this pattern with us.❤

Hi Linda, do you crochet tightly? Make your stitches little bit loosely, or you can use a larger size hook to make it flatten.
