Softest Lounge Around Pullover Crochet Pattern
This oversized pullover, sweater, poncho, or whatever you want to call it is THE SOFTEST top I’ve ever crocheted. It’s made with a new chenille yarn from Lion Brand that I’m absolutely in love with. In fact, I’d been hoping to see a nice worsted weight chenille yarn hit the market for a long time and was thrilled to get my hands on this during my recent trip to New York City.
What I love about this pullover is it’s oversized, really easy to make and super soft. It reminds me of something that goes along with the whole athleisure trend; a comfortable and cute piece that can be worn with running shoes or stretch pants. This pullover goes with jeans as well of course. The pattern can also easily be adjusted to fit your personal taste. By leaving the sides opening and omitting the sleeve cuffs, you’ve got a poncho. Want to make the cowl neck even more dramatic and larger? Just start with a longer chain. I’ve also made this in a variety of sizes so I hope this works for you!

You’ll make this by crocheting two rectangles and seaming them up the sides and inward at the shoulders. The cowl neck and other details are then added. You’ll find several pictures along with the crochet pattern to walk you through the process below. I made sure to use super simple stitches in this pattern so just about anyone can make it. The ribbing is created with single crochet stitches worked through the back loop and the majority of the pullover is done with half double crochet stitches worked through the front loops.
Above: This “Dusty Blue” color goes with so much but there are a lot of other beautiful colors available with this yarn as well (see them all HERE). And while there’s a baby on the label because it’s so perfect for anything “baby”, it’s also perfect for clothing that will be worn next to the skin.
Above: For sizing reference, I am wearing the size small and am about 5’6″ and 105 lbs. Abbreviations:
ch – chain
sc – single crochet
sc blo – single crochet through the back loop only
hdc – half double crochet
hdc flo – half double crochet through the front loop only
st – stitch
Notes: This top is made by crocheting two rectangles and seaming. Ribbed cuffs, cowl neck and sleeves are added separately. (See photos below) To make this longer, you may add more rows to the Main Panels (keep yarn needs in mind). Sleeves cuffs are optional.

Main Panels
With your size H crochet hook
Ch (104, 112, 120, 128, 136)
Row 1 Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2 stitches) and in each st across the row (103, 111, 119, 127, 135)
Row 2 Ch 2 (counts as st), turn, hdc flo in each st across the row (103, 111, 119, 127, 135)
Repeat row 2 until piece measures approximately (21”, 22”, 24”, 24”, 24”) in length (you may add length now if desired – keep yarn needs in mind)
Tie off and weave in ends.
Repeat Main Panel pattern above so you have two panels
Ribbed Bottom Edging
With your size H crochet hook
Ch 13
Row 1 Sc in each st across (12)
Row 2 Ch 1, turn, sc blo in each st across the row (12)
Repeat row 2 until piece measures the same length as the width of the main panel (see photos below)
Tie off, weave in ends.
Repeat above Ribbed Bottom Edging pattern so you have made two.
Set aside for assembly.
Cowl Neck
With your size J Crochet Hook
Ch 25
Row 1 Sc in each st across the row (24)
Row 2 Sc blo in each st across the row (24)
Repeat row 2 until piece measures approximately 23” long. Seam ends together with a whip stitch to create cowl.
Set aside for assembly.
Sleeve Cuffs (optional)
With your size H crochet hook
Ch 12
Row 1 Sc in each st across the row (11)
Row 2 Sc blo in each st across the row (11)
Repeat row 2 until your piece measures approximately (13”, 14”, 15”, 16”, 17”)
Tie off and weave in ends. Whip stitch seam ends together.
Assembly
Attach Ribbed Bottom Edging – with your tapestry needle and length of yarn, whip stitch seam the edging to the bottom of the main panel. Repeat for second panel.
Attach Cowl Neck – Measure across the width of Main Panel. Mark the midpoint with stitch markers or preferred method. Place center of cowl at marked center point of main panel. Whip stitch cowl to attach to both panels.
Seam at the Shoulders – Seam inward at the shoulders with whip stitch seam.
Seam Sides – Starting from the lower edge, just above the Ribbed Bottom Edging, whip stitch seam up each side of the main panels leaving equal space for the arm holes. (Length of opening from top of piece approximately 7”, 7.5”, 8”, 8.5”, 9”)
Seam Sleeve Cuffs to Arm Openings – Whip stitch seam the sleeve cuffs to the arm holes. The cuffs stretch to fit the openings.

The Lounge Around Pullover is absolutely adorable and looks sooooo comfy! Although I have not yet seen a single one of your patterns that I did not want to make immediately! I have enough yarn to make every single one too…I just need to get my hand back in proper working order so I can get hem all done!
I wish you had come out with this pattern about a month ago so I could have made it before my surgery. I probably could have muddled through this one so that I could wear it to the hospital the day of surgery. You know how they always tell you to wear comfortable clothes…can’t get more comfy than this!

I just started this, love it! I just had a question. Do you attach the cowl before seaming the shoulders? Trying to work out in my mind how to do that! Lol.
It’s been a while since I made this, but I think I sort of started the shoulders loosely, then did the cowl, then finished the shoulders. That’s sort of what I remember – lol!
I am a size 40″ bust. What size should I use? I thought the small= 54 inch circumference would be the size, but that doesn’t go around. Am I misunderstanding the sizing?
