Yeeeey!! I can finally share with you this Shining Pearl Sweater which I designed and make last year for Simply Crochet Magazine! Are you excited about this?
This design was my first ever design published in a magazine. I didn’t have too many since then and maybe there will be more, but this will remain “THE FIRST” with all the excitement and fear of failing and a lot, a lot of different emotions that I put in every single stitch.

I have to say that this Shining Pearl Sweater wasn’t my first proposal to them, it was another sweater design idea, which I hope I will bring it to life soon. They didn’t like the first idea, but they asked me to find something else. Which was super nice of them, but also super stressful for me. I knew that I have to come with something special and unique and the idea of this sweater came after seeing a blanket worked in the same stitch pattern by Daisy Farm Crafts
I already had back then 2 diamonds stitch top down patterns, My Precious Sweater and Diamonds Lace Top and I knew I can make it.
The idea was approved and the making process started. I was super excited and I love this sweater so much and it means so much to me as a designer and I really hope you will like it.
This version of the pattern is the original one! I end up with a super long pattern which had to be edited by the people behind Simply Crochet Magazine to fit in one single issue along with other patterns 😁😁😁 . Don’t be scared about it because I just tried to make it as detailed as possible, but I am sure that you won’t need to follow the pattern to the end, because you will figure it out how it’s working way sooner.
Let’s go to work and see what we will need and how to make this Shining Pearl Sweater.
Materials you will need
- Yarn
- Category 3 ( Light, Dk)
- Crochet Hook
- 4 mm for edging
- 4.5 mm for the rest of the sweater
- You will need a yarn needle for wave in ends
- Scissors
- 4 stitch markers
Pattern notes
The garment is made top-down in circular rounds only on the right side. First is made the yoke, and then divided for the sleeves and body.
The entire sweater is worked alternating FPdc and BPdc in a diamonds pattern.
At the end, an edging is worked around neckline, sleeves and the bottom. The edge is worked 2 rounds in dc and 1 round in twisted dc on the wrong side of the sweater.
Ch 2 at the beginning of each round doesn’t count as first dc. The first dc is worked in the same st as the starting ch.
On the Yoke part, the increases in corners are made with 1 FPdc, ch 2, 1 FPdc in the same ch 2 space from the previous round increase.
When the pattern specified it, the increase will be 2 FPdc, ch 2, 2 FPdc in the same ch 2 space.
When the sleeves are divided from the body, an underarm ch is made. The length of the underarm chain is depending on the stitch pattern. To avoid having too larger sleeves, on bigger sizes we will start with just one diamond motif for the sleeves.
The Sweater will definitely need blocking after finishing it. Gentle soak it in warm water with a bit of wool detergent. Rinse it until all detergent is off and the water is clear. Use a bath towel or 2 to drain as much water as you can.
Then lay a dry bath towel on the blocking mat and place the sweater. The sweater is heavy and it will became larger when is wet. When placing the pins for blocking, try to get to the approximate measurements as in the pattern or as closer, unless you will want a looser fit of the sweater. Keep it in a ventilated room and turn it on other side after a few hours.
Final Measurements
This pattern is available in 5 sizes from Small up to 2XL. The Final measurements of the sweater are written below:
Neck a: 19 (19, 21, 25, 25) cm; 7.5 (7.5, 8, 10, 10) in
Bust width b: 49 (55, 61, 66, 71) cm, 19.2 (21.6, 24, 26, 28) in

For the Shining Pearl Sweater I used Rico Essentials Merino DK (100% Virgin Wool) in color Pearl Pink (16). For each size you will approximate need:

About the stitch pattern.
As I said in the notes section, we are just playing with FPdc and BPdc to create this diamonds pattern.
I draw a chart, just to give you an idea about how this is going to look like.
The purple squares are FPdc stitches and the white ones BPdc stitches.
Abbreviations used in this pattern
- Ch – chain
- Sc – single crochet
- Dc – double crochet
- FPdc – Front post double crochet
- BPdc – back post double crochet
- Inc – Increase (1 FPdc, ch 2, 1 FPdc); you will see mentioned in the pattern that on some rounds you will need to make 2PFdc, ch2, 2 FPdc.
- Tsc – twisted sc: you insert the hook in the next stitch, pull up a loop (keep both loops on hook loose), turn the hook counter clockwise (loops remain on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops.

Gauge
16 sts and 13 rounds to measure 10 x 10 cm (4×4 in) in the used pattern using 4.5 mm hook.
*the tension is measured before blocking in the stitch pattern used

For the sleeves you will have to follow the same pattern as for the body.
You will start working the sleeves from the middle st of the underarm chain.
The sleeves are worked in rounds as well. The first round of the sleeves will have the same stitch pattern as the separating round, only that in the underarm ch we will work 1 dc in each st.
EDGING
The sweater is finished with the same edge pattern, made on the top of the neckline, bottom sleeves and hem.
Start working on the RS of the sweater.
R1|Ch 1, 1 sc in the same st, 1 sc in each stitch around. Join with a sl st with 1st sc.
R2|Repeat round 1

Hi,
I’m using a different yarn and the hook size is 4 to archive the gauge. At the beginning you listed sized 4 for the edging and 5 mm for the rest of the sweater. So what size should i use 😅
Hi! It was a typing mistake for the hook size on the website pattern. For edging is 4.mm and for the rest 4.5 mm. If you have the same gauge with a 4 mm you can use 4 for the entire sweater

hello just curious if the are the starting chain counts are correct…I’m a medium and wonder how my chain is less than a small and large size. Thank you for this beautiful pattern.
I know that it’s weird! But I calculated so in order to work the st pattern. Basically I reduced with one diamond motif the sleeves, because more rounds are worked for the yoke and a bigger armpit chain is added so the stitch pattern to continue on the body section. In order to avoid having too larger sleeves I started with less sts. The main important think with the started chain is to fit your head and I think this won’t be a problem.
You can start with the number of sts needed for size small and work the yoke until you get to the desired bust width.

How to do inc in next round? We do dc on 2chain space, ? i dont now how to do fpdc on chain space
Hi!! Sorry for the confusion!! It’s not an actual FP, but you have to make it a bit different than a dc not to end up with a longer st. Insert the hook from back through front in the ch space and make the dc around the ch 2. It’s made like the ch 2 is your post around which you have to make the dc st.
Hoping it’s making sense! You can make a regular dc instead as well. I don’t think the difference will be so noticeable.
