Do you ever get the urge to try something different? As a King Cole Ambassador I was looking through yarn and their Opium caught my eye. Opium is a thick and thin yarn that adds so much texture and dimension to your finished piece. The yarn is considered a bulky yarn but in the thinner spots is as thin as a sock weight yarn. I found this a bit tricky to work with at first but I found the best thing to do is to use an extremely simple stitch as well as a loose tension as you work. That’s why I think the Opi Shawl is perfect for this yarn. I’ve only used half double crochet. I also thought measuring a gauge swatch might be a bit tricky so I eliminated that all together by working off your measurements as you go.

For the Opi Shawl free crochet pattern I used Opium which is 54% Cotton, 42% Premium Acrylic and 4% Polymide. I found it to be very soft and it feels great next to skin. Because of the texture of the yarn I didn’t really feel the need to block my shawl. I thought it looked perfect straight off my hook!

You can find Opium Here through Love Crafts. Or at you favorite LYS that carries King Cole yarns.
