Mod Christmas Sweater Crochet Pattern

This Mod Christmas Sweater Crochet Pattern is a raglan style sweater with cute striped sleeves. I went with some Christmas colors for my sleeves, but they can be made in any color combination. The best part is there is no sewing. NONE. There are quite a bit of ends due to the stripes, but still… no sewing!

Materials
WeCrochet Brava Worsted – any worsted weight yarn will work
(1 skein each stripe color, (3, 3, 4) (4, 5, 5) skeins of main color)
H/5.0 mm hook
yarn needle
scissors
stitch markers (optional)

Pattern notes & stitches to know
sl st – slip stich
ch – chain
foundation dc (or start with a ch and dc in starting ch)
dc – double crochet
dc2tog – double crochet 2 together (double crochet decrease)

· written in US terms

· ch 2 does not count as stitch

· This sweater is raglan style and made top-down in turned rounds.

· I used 2 skeins for each of the sleeve stripe colors (even though only one of each color is needed) so I didn’t have to fasten off the color. OR separate the stripe color into 2 balls of yarn, one for each sleeve. OR there are Mini Skeins available. I had 1 working on each sleeve at the same time when working on the first section (before the split for sleeves). 3 skeins of the main color are needed before the split for the sleeves.

· The cream is color A, light red is B, dark red is C, light green is D, dark green is E (note: the exact colors used in the sample are not available)

· For the sleeves each color is working for 2 rounds. The color pattern is: B, C, B, A, D, E, D, A

· NOTE: photos are from an earlier version of the pattern but the methods are the same

Gauge:  13 dc x 8 rows = 4” x 4”

Sizes:

(S, M, L) (XL, 2X, 3X) – The pattern is written in these sizes consecutively. Example, when the pattern gives the end of row count ((66, 74, 82) (90, 98, 106) dc) the 66 is for S, 74 is M, 82 is L, 90 is XL, 98 is 2X, 106 is 3X.

This sweater is very close fitting with negative ease.

MOD CHRISTMAS SWEATER CROCHET PATTERN

starting with Color C

ch 3

Round 1: Starting in the 3rd ch from the hook, foundation dc (66, 74, 82) (90, 98, 106), join to first dc with sl st ((66, 74, 82) (90, 98, 106) dc) – or – ch 68, 76, 84, 92, 100, 108, dc in 2nd ch from hook and across

Round 2: ch 2, turn, dc in each stitch around, join to first dc with sl st ((66, 74, 82) (90, 98, 106) dc)

Change to color A for the body. Change to a stripe color for the sleeve.

Round 3: ch 2, turn, dc in next 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 stitches, 2 dc in next, ch 2 (change to Color B)

2 dc in next,

dc in 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21 stitches, 2 dc in next, ch 2, (change back to Color A) 2 dc in next, dc in next 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28 stitches, 2 dc in next, ch 2, (change to Color B) 2 dc in next, dc in next 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21 stitches, 2 dc in next, ch 2, (change to color A) 2 dc in next, dc in remaining stitches, join to first dc with sl sl (74, 82, 90, 98, 106, 114 dc)

In the next rounds, remember to change color for the sleeves and the main section of the sweater

Round 4: ch 2, turn, *dc in each stitch to ch 2 space, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch 2 space*, repeat from * to * around, dc in remaining stitches, join to first dc with sl st ((82, 90, 98) (106, 114, 122) dc)

Round 5 – (14, 16, 18) (20, 22, 24): repeat round 4 ((162, 186, 210) (234, 258, 282) dc)

The split for the sleeves is in the next round. Use only Color A.

Round (15, 17, 19) (21, 23, 25): ch 2, turn, *dc in each stitch to ch 2 space, dc in ch 2 space, ch 3, dc in next ch 2 space (skipping the entire sleeve portion)*

Repeat from * to * around, dc in remaining stitches, join to first dc with sl st (92, 104, 116) (128, 140, 152 dc)

Work around the body of the sweater using only Color A

Round (16, 18, 20) (22, 24, 26): ch 2, turn, dc in each stitch and ch  around, join to first dc with sl st ((98, 110, 122) (134, 146, 158) dc)

Round (17, 19, 21) (23, 25, 27): ch 2, turn, dc in each stitch around, join to first dc with sl st ((98, 110, 122) (134, 146, 158) dc)

Repeat previous round to Round (40, 44, 48) (52, 56, 60)

NOTE: The last 4 rounds are stripe colors. 2 round of color B and 2 of color C

Or until preferred length

Fasten off, weave in the ends

SLEEVES

Join yarn to the bottom of an armhole. Work stitches evenly around the armhole. The sleeves are made in turned rounds. Place a stitch maker in the first stitch to help identify round 1.

The stripe pattern is continued in the sleeves. Start where it left off from the top section of the sweater.

Round 1: ch 2, dc in each stitch and ch evenly around, join to first dc with sl st

Round 2: ch 2, turn, dc in each stitch around, join to first dc with sl st

Repeat previous round to Round (30, 31, 32) (33, 34, 35)

The sleeve decreases in the next round for the cuff (optional). Adjust sleeve length by adding or taking out rounds before decreasing. To make the cuff tighter add an additional decrease round.

Round (31, 32, 33) (34, 35, 36): ch 2, turn, dc in first stitch, *dc2tog, dc in next* repeat from * to * around, join to first dc with sl st

Round (32, 33, 34) (35, 36, 37): ch 2, turn, dc in each stitch around, join to first dc with sl st

Fasten off, weave in the ends

Repeat other sleeve
