I’m absolutely LOVING this adorable Lots of Love Baby Blanket! It uses Solid Granny Squares, Heart Appliques and a Puff Edge Stitch border to create this sweet and pretty blanket.

I had posted a little sneak peek of this blanket on my Facebook page and someone had commented how the border looked like frosting. I totally see it! Do you? It looks like the neat edge of icing around the top or bottom of a cake.

Solid Granny Squares ( make 13 in white & 12 in pink)

Round 1: make a mc, ch 2 (does NOT count as a st) 10 dc into mc, sl st into 1st dc of round (10)

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, sl st into 1st st of round (20)

Round 3: ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout) ( dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same st as ch 3, dc, hdc in 2 st, dc * ( 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st, dc, hdc in 2 st, dc* repeat * to * around, sl st into top of ch 3

Round 4 – 5: sl st into next st, sl st into ch 2 sp, ch 3, ( dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch 2 corner, dc in each st across until you reach next ch 2 sp,* ( 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner, dc in each st until you reach next corner sp* repeat * to * around, sl st into top of ch 3

Heart Appliques (make 13)

Round 1: 6 sc in mc (6)

Round 2: * sc in 1 st, 2 sc in next st* repeat * to * 2 more times (9)

Round 3: sl st, ( 2 dc, hdc ) in the same st that you just sl st into, sc in the next 3 st, sl st into next st, sc in next 3 st, ( hdc, 2 dc ) in the very last st, sl st into the very first sl st ( 14 st, counting the sl st )

Round 4: 2 sc in next 2 st (you should start your very 1st st in the top of the 1st dc from previous round), sc in 4 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in 4 st, 2 sc in next 2 sc, sl st into the very top middle of the heart. (19)

Cut yarn. I like to take the tail of the yarn from the top of the heart and pull it right down the middle of the heart to help with the ‘heart’ shape even more.

Weave in all ends.

I have a video tutorial for these hearts HERE

Sew on 1 heart applique per white granny square

Lay the granny squares out. I laid them in 5 x 5 rows. Starting with a white then pink, alternating them every row

Join your granny squares. I used the slip stitch method, you can join them any way you’d like. I do have a video tutorial for this join on YouTube HERE

Once you have joined all of your squares, I crocheted a row of single crochet all the way around my blanket in white.

Place 2 single crochet in each chain of the chain 2 corners and you can even place a hdc in the gap between the squares to help even the border out, slip stitch into 1st sc of round.

For the Puff Edge Border Stitch, you will use a special stitch called HDC3TOG

HDC3TOG – yarn over, pull up a loop,(3 loops on hook) YO again, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook) YO again, pull up a loop (7 loops on hook) YO and pull through all 7 loops on your hook

Switch to Pink yarn.

Start by pulling up a loop anywhere around the edge of your blanket and work an HDC (half double crochet) in that stitch. *Skip a stitch, Hdc, then, working around the post of the HDC, HDC3TOG.*

Continue repeating * to * around your work. When you reach a corner, simply work 2 puff edge stitches in the corner placing a chain stitch between the 2 puff edge stitches. Cut yarn, weave in all ends.
