Isla Scalloped Wrap – Shawl Crochet Pattern

Many of you have asked for a mid-weight, crocheted wrap so I’m super excited to share today’s pattern! I LOVE this for the transition from summer into fall.  It’s made with a simple four row pattern repeat and the yarn is soft as can be with the perfect drape.

I also love that the Ferris Wheel Yarn cakes are large so that this wrap only uses three cakes total.  It’s self striping, so there’s no need to make color changes. Lion Brand’s created this beautiful color combo called Cherry On Top along with several other options.  What do you think?

Scroll all the way down for the free pattern, find the ad-free printable on Etsy HERE, or find the kit on sale at Lion Brand HERE.

How difficult is this wrap?  It’s simple, but it’s not for complete beginners. It’s got enough variation to keep you interested, yet it’s easy enough for those of you who’ve got all the basic stitches down.  I guess I’d call it intermediate for that reason.

It’s so fun to see the different colors emerge as you work through the pattern.  The large, lacy scallops feature beautiful openwork designs that you can see in the close-up photo below. Isn’t it pretty?

My favorite crocheted wrap has to be the Santa Monica Bias Wrap, and this one is right there with it.  They are both light and soft on the skin, making them really versatile.

This piece can certainly work as a wrap, shawl, cover-up or scarf! It’s light enough to throw in a bag if you’re travelling and it holds it’s shape nicely.

I could have used it in the air conditioned restaurants in Florida this last week. Hehe! And aren’t these some lovely fall colors? The burnt orange, pumpkin, taupes and pinks. LOVE!

Have you tried the Ferris Wheel yarn (above)? It’s really nice to work with as it doesn’t split or break and as I mentioned before – THE DRAPE!

So shall we get to the free pattern?! Check it out below! (You may also choose to purchase the ad-free, printable version from my Etsy shop HERE)

You may also find a video stitch tutorial from New Stitch A Day HERE that can help you as well!  Once you get the stitch down, you’ll find it easier to follow the pattern!

I hope that you enjoyed this wrap.  It’s been fun to play with some color and dream about fall. 🙂

Jessica

  1. Beautiful! I’ve had some wool/acrylic yarn in my stash and decided to use your stitch pattern for a sweater. So pretty, I’ve got the first 5 rows done and I love it! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Beautiful, Jessica, just beautiful! I LOVE to see what you come up with and it’s always super. I can’t wait to make this shawl. Can you recommend other self-striping yarns or can I use whatever I want and pay attention to the color change-over?
Thanks again for a beautiful pattern!

  3. Love this pattern. I used lion brand ice cream big scoop mochi.
It worked out very pretty. Yellow and gray. I went back to my Michaels and bought the rest of that color and I I have started on another shawl only I’m going to keep going and make an Afghan.

    1. Wow Kathryn! So happy to hear that this shawl has worked out for you so well. And I love that you’re making an afghan with the pattern. Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. I’m making this for my mom as a “Sanctuary Shawl.” It can lay across the pew back and be her seat-saver as well 🙂 Since it ‘s so difficult to wear a coat in a church pew, this can be perfect to slip around shoulders, or drape over a lap, without being cumbersome or bulky.
Also perfect to throw in the car for long travels for the same reasons (easy to manipulate). Thanks for sharing!

  5. Would this brand of yarn work up aoft and squishy for say an baby blanket with a hood attached?

  6. I made this in the same yarn and color way as your pattern. I love when the stitch pattern and the yarn chosen by three designer comes together into perfection. Did you block it to make it more “open”? I’ve never blocked anything before. Your photos show the stitch pattern to be open. Thanks in advance.

    1. Jessica I love your knitting patterns. Have made a couple of the Sedona scarves for friends. I love the colours in the Isla scalloped wrap, could I possibly knit a wrap with that yarn as I can’t crochet, and only just getting back to knitting due to being locked in with Corona, and it will be getting cold in Aus. before long.
