I'm Hailey Bailey and I design crochet patterns for those who love nature, color, a bit of texture, and a modern but wearable style. I have been crocheting since 2016 but have been a maker throughout my life. I have dabbled in a bit of everything: painting, ceramics, glass art, sewing, printmaking, punch needle embroidery, all the things! Something about crochet, however, worked its way into my maker heart more than all the others and I have been designing patterns for nearly as long as I've been crocheting.
At first, making things was simply a natural way for me to express myself, pass the time, etc, until I experienced significant trauma as a child and teenager. After that, making became more. It became my survival. I made things because it was the only way I could process what I had been through and creating things helped me to make sense of it all. Most of all, it gave me a purpose. I know that sounds ridiculous and probably super cheesy, but I can't describe it any other way. Making is so much more than manipulating materials to me. Yes, I design sweaters and scarves and hats and home decor, but everything about each creation I make - the name, the colors, the shapes, the inspiration behind it - means so much more.
My design mission is to produce patterns that not only create beautiful finished products but are written in a way to allow the making process to be as enjoyable as possible. I want every maker who chooses one of my patterns to feel supported, encouraged, and safe along the way. I hope that you feel this way and that finding your creativity with hooks and yarn brings you as much joy, healing, and fulfillment as it has brought to me.
