To begin with you will need to crochet a full complete Granny Square with A Round Centre. This will be your mother square and the only square you need to completely finish. For the remaining motifs you will only need to crochet the round centres which means you will stop after round three and join it with 'Join As You Go Method'. Choose three colours for the round centre.
I used DK weight of Yarn and size 4.5 mm crochet hook.
Using Uk Crochet Terms proceed as follow:
Make a slip knot and chain 5.
Sl st into the first chain to form a circle.
Round 1.
Ch3 (counts as 1 tr) 11 tr into the circle. Sl st into the third of the first 3 ch to join. Cut off the yarn and fasten off. (12 tr all around)
Round 2.
Join new colour in any space between tr from previous round.
Ch3 (counts as first tr) into the space between the trebles from previous round, tr into the same space as ch3. Tr 2 in each space all around . Sl st to third of the first 3 ch to join. Cut off yarn and fasten off. (12 2tr clusters in each space all round )
Round 3.
Join new colour in any space between any 2tr clusters from previous round.
Ch 3 (Counts as first tr) 2 tr into the same space as the ch3. Tr 3 in each space between tr2 clusters from previous round. Sl st to third of the first 3 ch to join. (12 tr3 clusters).cut off yarn and fasten off.
Round 4.
Only complete this round on the very first square, we are going to call this square the 'mother square'. On all the following motifs stop after round 3 and crochet the final round at the same time as joining your squares together with Join As You Go Method.
On this round we will turn the round centre into the square.
Each square will have 4 corners and two 3 tr clusters between the corners on each side.
Each Corner consists of (3tr, ch1, 3tr).
As you are working make sure you insert your hook into each space between tr3 clusters from previous round.
Lets start:
Join new colour ( this will be your main colour you will use to join all your motifs and even the the border) in any space between any 3tr clusters from previous round.
Ch 3 (counts as first tr), 2tr, ch 1, 3 tr this is your first corner.
Ch 1, (tr3, ch1) twice. *Corner (3tr,ch1,3tr) into the next space, ch1, ( 3tr, ch1) twice , repeat from* two more times. sl st to 3rd of the first 3 ch to join, cut off yarn and fasten off.
Please follow instruction in the video below to join your squares with Join As You Go Method. This method is a little tricky to put into words and I think it will be easier if I just show you.
After you reached the desired size of your blanket, you can decide on your border. In my case I opted for a very simple border of double crochet (uk terms)around the entire blanket, crocheting one dc in each space between each treble from all your joined motifs, with three double crochets in each of the four corners of the blanket. These three double crochets will help to turn the corner and stop your corners from curling in!
