Introducing our Fox Crochet Baby Rattles!
We are so excited to share our free pattern for a crochet fox baby rattle (or change the colours and you have an amigurumi wolf baby rattle!)! It’s been a while since we released a free amigurumi pattern. We’ve been caught up with the kids being home during the summer – plus we did our first-ever craft fair with our here in Karachi (we shared a bunch of our top craft fair tips if you’re looking for craft fair ideas).
However, we’re back with lots of new free patterns up our sleeves! Recently, we have been getting a lot of requests for amigurumi crochet baby gifts (post-lockdown baby season?) and so we started making little crochet baby rattles to match our Juna series of amigurumi animal patterns.
Today we are sharing our first rattle with you from our new crochet baby gift patterns series – Ferdi the crochet fox rattle (or Walt the Wolf amigurumi rattle if you use grey)! The rattle works up really quickly so can be a great last-minute crochet baby shower gift. You can even pair it with our easy crochet fox or our small crochet fox for an adorable crochet baby gift set.
The rattle stem is made up of four different balls that you can vary the colours of as you like. We personally try to work in a gradient, from light to dark – but have fun with the colours! We designed this stem so that it’s easy for a baby to grip. Plus, because it’s made up of little balls, it stays more firm when stuffed. This pattern is very easy and is a good pattern for beginners.
If you would like an ads-free, print-friendly PDF version of our pattern, you can buy it from our Ravelry store.

Muzzle
Tip: The muzzle can be a little tricky because there are a lot of colour changes, since each row is done in two colours. When changing colours between orange/grey and white, there is no need to cut the yarn and re-attach. Just pull the new colour up each time. When bringing in the new colour, do not keep the yarn taut. Allow it to have some give as you pull it across so that it doesn’t affect the shape of the muzzle.
Begin with black yarn

Fasten off both orange/grey and white. Leave a long tail of both colours to sew onto muzzle.
Stuff the muzzle lightly and sew it onto the head, centred and with the colours aligned. Embroider on a smile.
Eyes (Make 2)
Using embroidery thread
Round 1: 4 SC into a magic circle (4)
Sl st to the first SC. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing.
Use white embroidery thread and embroider on eye glints on each eye. Sew the eyes at approximately between Rounds 8 and 10. Embroider on the eyebrows.
