DIY Infinity Cable Knit Scarf

INFINITY CABLE KNIT SCARF 4

I’ve been wanting to make one of these infinity scarves  for like ever now. It took me this long mostly because I just couldn’t find the right yarn that was affordable and I couldn’t decide on the pattern to use!

This project was initially intended to be a cable knit blanket, but as I progressed further into the pattern, I realised that it would take far too much yarn to make the dream blanket I wanted. It was also mid winter at the time so I figured I would benefit more from having a super chunky cable knit scarf instead!

Tools:

I used 15mm knitting needles and a super chunky yarn that I doubled up on. You can find the details here.

I am a little unsure of the yarn size, but it called for 9mm needles. Since I was doubling up on yarn, I also used larger needles.

The cable patterns were taken from The Harmoney Guide To Knitting Stitches – this is my go to book for most knitting patterns!

I took a couple of cable knit options that I liked and threw them together into the following pattern.

Yarn:

6 balls of Perfekt Gjestal (100g – 80 meters) yarn. Doubled up so really 40 meters per ball.

It is a bulky yarn that calls for 9mm needles, so doubling up meant I used my 15mm needles instead.

If you would like it to be a little shorter and snugger, 5 balls would be fine.

Also if you can find fatter yarn, you would also use the same amount, but it might be 40m per ball instead of 80m.

After casting off, using a tapestry needle and the mattress stritch, connect both ends of the scarf.

CABLE SCARF 5

Here is how it looks after I’ve connected it. Not the neatest, but it does the job is is generally hidden when I’ve got it on.

Also look at it’s many convertible uses!

Admittedly I don’t really use it as a hood since most of my jackets have hoods and it tends to cramp up my space. BUT I do tend to pull the sides down to cover my shoulders when I’m not wearing a jacket and it’s just the perfect cover up on a chilly day.

This has been a fabulous saviour during the Norwegian winter months. I didn’t think I would use it all that much, but I have been wearing it almost every time I’ve left the house. The cables and chunky-ness of the whole thing really keeps the warmth in. I LOVE how I can wrap my face in it, it’s super useful on a windy day.

  1. This is such a great, and Super east pattern to follow. When I saw it on Bloglovin, I knew, I had to have it! I just ordered a new coat, so I’m definitely going to get started making this for the crazy weather that is heading my way! Thanks for posting it!

  2. Love your creation! Can you please tell me the finished dimensions (length and width) before it’s connected? Apologies if you’ve mentioned them alreadybut I couldn’t find anything. Thanks. 🙂

    1. Hi Tallulah! Sorry for the late reply. I haven’t been blogging much this year. I actually don’t have this scarf with me at the moment (because I moved around a lot in the last couple of years) but from what I remember it was around 70/80cm by30 cm. This was a little too long, I would recommend maybe making it 60cm long. Thanks for stopping by!
