Notes

This dress is made top down, starting with the Yoke, worked in rows and then picking up stitches for the skirt and working in the round.

When changing colors on the Yoke, there is no need to cut off at the end of the rows. Drop the old color and pick up the new until completion of the Yoke when the contrasting color is no longer needed and you will continue with the main color.

On the increasing rows of the Yoke, place stitch markers or small pieces of yarn to mark the increase placement. For a cleaner circle, don’t place your increases in the same spot each time. Stagger them in different places.

When working in a spiral for the Skirt, you will be working in a spiral in continuous rounds without joining or turning. Use a stitch marker or small piece of yarn to mark the beginning of your rounds to keep your place.

Skirt

Round 1: With mauve, 1 sc, ch 12 (14, 16, 18), sk next 15 (16, 17, 17) sc, sc in next 24 (25, 26, 28) sc (back), ch 12 (14, 16, 18), sk next 15 (16, 17, 17) sc, sc in next 20 (21, 22, 24) sc, sl st to first sc, turn.

Round 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each sc and in each ch of the ch-sp (stitch directly into each chain), do not sl st to join, begin working in a spiral (see Notes above): 69 (75, 81, 89) sc.

Round 3: Mark 6 evenly-spaced sc, sc in each sc except work 2 sc at each marked sc: 75 (81, 87, 95) sc.

Rounds 4-9: Sc in each sc around: 75 (81, 87, 95) sc.

Next round: Mark 6 evenly-spaced sc, sc in each sc except work 2 sc at each marked sc: 81 (87, 93, 101) sc.

Sc in each sc around until hem of Skirt measures about 8″ (9″, 10″ 11″) from Yoke [about 35 (40, 45, 50) total rounds], continue sc until you reach the center back of the Skirt, sl st into next sc, fasten off.

Finishing

With yarn needle, weave in loose ends carefully.

Sew buttons in a straight line in the front of the Yoke. I separated strands of the yarn but you can also use sewing thread.

Join mauve with sl st to opposite side of Yoke opening. Adjusting as necessary, according to your button placement, sl st across the straight line of opening, with a ch 4 loop for each button. Fasten off. Weave in remaining loose ends.
