This adorable cape was designed by my daughter, Vada. When she saw the Chic Sheep yarn, she came up with the idea for this cape. She explained to me what she wanted it to look like and I created it for her. She loves the finished cape, and I’m sure you will too.

Red Heart Chic Sheep, 100 g/186 yds
Polo 5632, Color A – 1 skein
Vineyard 5628, Color B – 1 skein
Sterling 5641, Color C – 1 skein
Hook:
US-H/8, 5.0mm – Red Heart Chic Sheep
Gauge:
14 sts x 8 rows = 4” [10 cm] in dc
Other supplies:
yarn needle
2 – 1/2 inch buttons
Stitches and Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
dc2tog – double crochet 2 together
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)
Getting Started:
This pattern is worked with the middle striped section first, then the top border, and lastly the bottom border.
Pattern:
Row 1: With Color A, ch 31, sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 9 ch, hdc in next 10 ch, dc in next 10 ch.
Rows 2-10 even: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 9 sts, hdc in next 10 sts, sc in next 10 sts.
Rows 3-9 odd: Turn, ch 1 (does not count as a st, sc in first 10 sts, hdc in next 10 sts, dc in next 10 sts.
Rows 11-20 even: With Color B, repeat row 2
Rows 13-19 odd: Repeat row 3
Rows 21-30 even: With Color A, repeat row 2
Rows 23-29 odd: Repeat row 3
Repeat rows 11-30 four times.
Clip yarn and weave in all ends.
Top Border:
Row 1: With Color C, 88 dc across top of piece (that’s 8 dc in each color section). – {88 dc}
Row 2: Turn, Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in next 5 sts, dc2tog, [dc in next 6 sts, dc2tog] to end. – {77 sts}
Row 3: Turn, Ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, dc2tog, [dc in next 5 sts, dc2tog] to end. – {66 sts}
Clip yarn and weave in all ends.
Bottom Border:
Row 1: With Color C, 220 dc across top of piece (that’s 20 dc in each color section). – {220 dc}
Row 2: Turn, Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in next 18 sts, 2 dc in next st, [dc in next 19 sts, 2 dc in next st] to end. – {231 sts}
Row 3: Turn, Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in next 19 sts, 2 dc in next st, [dc in next 20 sts, 2 dc in next st] to end. – {242 sts}
Row 4: Turn, Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in next 20 sts, 2 dc in next st, [dc in next 21 sts, 2 dc in next st] to end. – {253 sts}

Just add a few more of the stripes and then redistribute the decreases and increases in the top and bottom

How many skeins do I need if I only do it in one colour?
You will most likely still need all 3 skeins.
I am making shoulder wraps for the elderly in our community, many in wheelchairs or on walkers. I have been told they must not have large “holes” as the senior (some of them) get their fingers hung up in them and then they get destressed. I understand that, I do the same as I too am elderly. Anyway, I digress. What I want to ask you is if someone has enlarged this for adults and if so, do you know how I can locate that pattern? This is a beautiful little cape and I feel it would make what I am looking for for the seniors who need them. I am not experienced enough to figure out how to make it bigger.

Don’t understand Pattern. Rows 2-10 even. 3-9 odd and the others Rows .No problems with stitches. Top and Bottom ok. Would like to make for two great granddaughters.
2-8 even are 2, 4, 6, 8
3-9 odd are 3, 5, 7, 9
Is that what you didn’t understand, or was it something else?
Think I figure the. Pattern out after doing more concentrated studying Hope I am correct working on row 5 . Think my grands will like it
