Well, will you look at that! It’s a whole new month and that means new patterns. I do love the rush of new patterns and the hope of a new month, full of possibilities. Speaking of new patterns, I’m kicking this month off with – the Calista Basket crochet pattern using some new to me yarn, Hue and Me.

So, not to get too much into reviewing the yarn but I loved working with Hue + Me. I also used it to make a new cardigan pattern, the Mia Cardigan, and I actually quite love it. The colors are all so fun and it works up well. It’s almost like an extra bulky though, so keep an eye on that when you’re working up the patterns I have coming with it. If you want a basket that sticks up on it’s own, you’re gonna want to make sure your yarn is thick.

Anyway, getting to the basket. This month’s design is all about simplicity – which is kind what my year-long theme is. Personally and in my designs, I’m working on keeping things simple but having fun with colors and texture. Which is why I created this design – it’s easy and fun and uses one of my favorite stitches, the single crochet cluster. The single crochet cluster is basically a sc2tog and a ch 1 that’s worked as one stitch – when you work that in multiple rows it creates the best texture. I really hope you love it too. It’s just so fun. And in this basket it’s so fun coupled with a color change, you really get a lot of personality. Or at least I think so 🙂

I hope where ever you are you’re having a great time and being safe and healthy. Hugs friends. Wash your hands and masks.

Please note: I was provided the yarn for this pattern by Lion Brand Yarn for the purposes of making this design, without compensation. I wasn’t provided the yarn with the expectations of positive or negative reviews but I did enjoy using this yarn, I’ve used it many times and it’s always a great worsted acrylic yarn. If you purchase yarn through any of the links in this post, I will be compensated.

Hi, Thank you for sharing! Yes, that is my real name. Do you know how this basket could be made bigger?

Thank you!

Sure, just keep adding rounds to the base and adjust from there. You may need to make the handles larger.

Hello! I recently made two of these baskets and love the way they came out. Would you have any recommendations on how to stiffen them up a bit? Thanks!

I would say you could go down a hook size to make it tighter? I crochet pretty tightly and it helps to keep the baskets stiff :)
