Crochet Briggs Shell Cowl Pattern & Yarn Review

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by! Today's free pattern is the Briggs Cowl.

I was provided this beautiful yarn by Briggs & Little. All of their premium Canada grade wool knitting yarns are made from 100% domestic wool, and are milled, carded, dyed, and spun at their factory in York Mills, New Brunswick, Canada. It’s the same place it’s been for over 150 years. How cool is that??

I'm using their 100% Wool Country Roving in the color Mustard. This roving yarn consist of 5 strands. I thought I would have a difficult time using yarn like this. I had no problem at all! I actually really enjoyed it!

I started off knitting a project.....

But then..... my dog (who we just adopted) somehow knocked my project down, chewed up the ball of yarn & my needles! I was upset for a split second but then it was back to the drawing board.

I decided that I would crochet a cowl instead.

Please visit any of my shops if you would like to purchase ad-free knitting & crochet PDF patterns in a convenient tri-fold format for on-the-go Knitting/Crocheting.

The Briggs Shell Cowl measures approx 26" in circumference x 9.5" tall. This is for 1 ball of yarn. You will need 2 balls of yarn for a larger cowl.

The beg ch3 counts as a dc st OR you can use the Chainless Double Crochet Stitch.

PATTERN

ch48 or any number of sts in multiples of 8 sts. This is the circumference of the cowl.

Join your round by working a sl st to the first ch st, careful not to twist sts.

Round 1: ch4 (counts as 1dc & ch1), 1dc in the same st, *sk 3 sts, puff shells st (see special sts), sk3, V st. Rep from * around until last 7 sts. End with sk3 sts, puff shell st, sk3, sl st to the 3rd ch from beg ch3.

Round 2: sl st into the ch1 sp (middle of V st). Pull up the loop to the height of a dc st, puff shell st in the ch1 sp (middle of V st), V st in the middle puff shell st from previous round. Rep from * around. Sl st to the first puf st.

Round 3: sl st loosely into the ch3 sp & into the st of the middle puff st. ch4 (counts as dc & ch1), 1dc] in same st, *puff shell st in middle of previous V st, V st in the middle of the previous puff st. Rep from * around. Work one last puff shell st in the last V st, sl st to the 3rd ch from beg ch4.

Repeat Rounds 2 & 3 for a total of 8 rounds or as tall as you'd like.

I hope you've enjoyed this pattern and try this beautiful yarn! I would highly recommend this yarn for anyone who loves working with wool. Unfortunately, I personally cannot wear wool (blessed with allergies) but I have no problems working with wool & gifting it to some very grateful friends!
