diy crochet Apple Watch bands crochet pattern

A few weeks ago I was browsing Jane.com (one of my favorite online boutiques!) and I found some darling friendship bracelet Apple Watch bands. Ah! They were so cute, but of course my brain immediately said “How can I make CROCHET Apple Watch bands?”

A quick search on Amazon led me to this simple Apple Watch hardware set. It was too perfect! I had to give it try.

They came in the mail and I immediately whipped up a set. I am so in love!

One of the fun things about Apple Watches is that you can so easily switch out the bands. I had to make a few more just to try some different color combinations, but using the basic pattern, you can completely customize it for yourself.  The light blue is all one yarn color with a pop of embroidery in a contrasting color. But I think the southwest diamond band is my favorite.

UPDATE: I found some hardware that might work for a Fit Bit!
Option 1
Option 2

Let me know if you try it with this other hardware, I am interested to see how it would work!

Note: This pattern was written for the 38mm Apple Watch, if you have the 42 mm, you might consider working rows of 9 sts instead of 7 sts.

BASIC CROCHET APPLE WATCH BAND:

1.  Start with your 1.3mm steel hook. This tiny hook should fit through the bar space on the hardware. Make a slip knot, put the hook under the bar and grab the hook, pulling it through. Ch 1. Sc 7 across the hardware bar. Turn. (7 sts)

Switch to 2.25 mm for rest of crochet Apple Watch band.

2. – 11. Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn (7 sts)

12. Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc in next 3 sts. Sc2tog. Turn. (5 sts)
13.
Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc in next sts. Sc2tog. Turn. (5 sts)
Tie off.

STRIPED WATCH BAND:

Note: To make the edges a bit more neat, tug the carried yarn slightly after each row to tighten it up and bring in any loop that may be there on the edge when you pulled it up to carry it.

1. Start with your 1.3mm steel hook. This tiny hook should fit through the bar space on the hardware. Make a slip knot, put the hook under the bar and grab the hook, pulling it through. Ch 1. Sc 7 across the hardware. Turn. (7 sts)

2. Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn (7 sts)
Join second color. Carry first color through the row.

3. Ch 1. sc in each st across. Turn. (7 sts)
Pull up first color that you carried through the row and join. Carry second color through next row.

4. – 11. Repeat rows 2-3 respectively.

12.  Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc in next 3 sts. Sc2tog. Turn. (5 sts)
13. Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc in next sts. Sc2tog. Turn. (5 sts)

Tie off.

SOUTHWEST DIAMOND WATCH BAND:

1.  Start with your 1.3mm steel hook. This tiny hook should fit through the bar space on the hardware. Make a slip knot, put the hook under the bar and grab the hook, pulling it through. Ch 1. Sc 7 across the hardware. Turn. (7 sts)

2. – 11. Work the graph
Graph notes: Do not carry the middle color to the edge. We will not be working a row of sc down the edge so you want it as neat as possible. Drop the color to the back and finish out the row with the main color, and pick up the 2nd color when you need again in the next row.

12.  Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc in next 3 sts. Sc2tog. Turn. (5 sts)
13. Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc in next sts. Sc2tog. Turn. (5 sts)
Tie off.

Note: You can use the tails to even out the sides, or the fill in spaces that need a bit of help as you are weaving them in (the back sides of the sc don’t look as nice as the fronts).

Finish your watch bands by pulling a few lengths of yarn and braiding them together (about 3 1/2″ long). Tie a firm knot at the end of each braid. You will use the braids to tie the watch to your wrist.

  1. I haven’t tried this but it might be cheaper to buy a set of bands and remove the strap. Then the cost of hardware would be less.

  2. My daughter would love having customized bands for her iWatch. I looked at the link to Amazon and sadly I didn’t understand if it was one set for one watch or more than that? I know Apple items are expensive, but $12 for one set seems excessive for hardware? Not that I won’t make one for my daughter, but it will likely be one and done at that price.

  3. I love the look of these but I’d be unable to tie the ends with one hand. What tricks do you use for tying?
    Thank you!

  4. Hi Beth,
I Love this idea. I am wondering how possible it would be to do one for a Fitbit? My sons Fitbit leaves a terrible rash on his skin. Upon researching this on line it turns out this is a common thing (Yuk!). I promised him I would try to make something that would hold his Fitbit (just off his skin) and maybe be like a watch band. Is there any way to adjust this design to fit that idea?

  5. Beth….you did it again. Your designs are right on….Thank you for showing us your creations… They are all very unique and gorgeous.
