About HanJan Crochet

Hi! Im Hannah the designer, writer, photographer and tea maker behind HanJan Crochet.

Creating has always been a part of my life and over the past few years HanJan Crochet has grown beyond my wildest dreams Im so happy to be here on EClaire Makery and meet you!

I began designing almost 9 years ago after I learned to crochet but was completely incapable of sticking to a pattern so just started writing my own instead. Since then I have been on an amazing journey to publish in magazines, books and on my blog hanjancrochet.com too.

Intro to the Pattern

Im so thrilled to be sharing my brand new Barcode Poncho pattern with you today. Its a really easy garment to wear that is perfect for layering in the Winter and for those cool Summer days too. A great wardrobe staple that you can really rely on.

The intermediate level pattern needs you to crochet two matching textured stitch panels for the front and back which are seamed at the shoulders and sides. Then add a front and back bottom cuff, a simple roll neck collar and youre done!

In sizes XS-5XL the poncho is great for everyone who loves simple, stylish and beautiful crochet garments.

The Yarn

To make this crochet poncho pattern, you’ll need your favorite DK weight yarn. Since I’m in the UK, I used Sirdar Snuggle yarn, which has a super cozy texture that is perfect for garments. If you don’t live in the UK, some other great alternatives would be We Crochet Swish DK yarn, Paintbox Cotton DK, Lion Brand Coboo, or another cozy DK weight yarn.

You’ll need two different colors to create the barcode pattern on the poncho. I recommend using two contrasting colors, so that the lines you crochet will stand out on the background.

Supplies:

  • 4mm/G crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Pattern Notes:

  • Work a matching front and back panel before adding a different cuff to the front and back panel.
  • The collar is worked separately and then sewn in place once the sides and shoulders are seamed.
  • A ch1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
  • When working the front and back panels always work into the back loop (BL) of a stitch when working on the right side (RS).
  • When working the front and back panels always work into the front loop (FL) of a stitch when working on the wrong side (WS).
  • When working the panels the treble stitches are always worked into the stitches of 2 rows below, working over the chains of the previous row.
  • The asterisks ** used in Rows 1-3 of XS/Small and XL sizes denote the main section of stitch pattern which is worked for other sizes.
  • You can adjust the side seams and shoulder seams to change the poncho fit to suit you.
  • If you would like to make your poncho longer or shorter then just add or subtract rows at the beginning and end of the panel (make sure you do an even change on both the beginning and end to make sure the pattern stays central).
