Autumn Belle Sweater Pattern

Have you ever made a bell sleeve sweater before? If not, you HAVE to make the Autumn Bell Sweater Pattern! This sweater is beginner friendly and is size inclusive with sizes XS-5X provided!

One of my favorite things about this sweater is the yarn. I used a Fine weight yarn, specifically Lion Brands’ Oh Baby Organic Cotton! Now I know, I know you’re saying “a fine weight yarn?! Won’t that take forever to make??” And the answer is NO! It actually works up pretty quickly because this sweater uses double crochet and treble crochet stitches throughout the whole thing!

I made this design in just a couple of weeks with my testers following suit and making it within 2-3 weeks! Not only is it fast for a fine weight sweater but you also get the benefit of the beautiful drape and light weight feel! If you get hot and itchy in a lot of sweaters like I do, then The Autumn Belle Sweater pattern is perfect for you!

Lightweight and beautiful drape- check! Size inclusive- check! Beginner friendly- check! If you are a beginner this is doable! I use easy stitches, minimal shaping AND include video tutorials on how to do the stitches! Perfect, right?

Pattern Notes:

  • Pattern is written as follows- XS(S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X) I recommend printing your pattern and highlighting all numbers for your size before beginning.

  • This sweater is worked in 4 panels and sewn together.

  • The Ch 2 and Ch 3 do not count as stitches.

  • All panels are made from the bottom up.

  • This is a drop sleeve sweater. Your seam where your sleeves connect with the front and back panel will be about half way down your bicep. This makes your sleeve panel look short before sewing, but length will be added once constructed together.

  • If you want shorter or longer sleeves, add or take away rows before you tie off. If you want your sweater longer, add row before the “splitting neckline” section on the front panel. Be sure to add the same amount of rows to the back panel.

Next, line your first sleeve panel up against the main body of the sweater. Sl St or sew across. Be sure that the shoulder seam is lined up directly with the center of your sleeve panel. Use stitch markers if necessary to keep the panels in place while you join. Double check when you reach the shoulder seam that you’ve worked exactly half of the sleeve stitches so that your seams are even.

Finally, fold your sweater panels together, right sides facing. Sew or Sl St from the cuff to the armpit and continue from the armpit to the bottom hem. Be sure to check that your rows are aligned as you go. You can place stitch markers every few rows to keep your place. Repeat on the opposite side.

Trim: Join yarn to any stitch along the neckline of the sweater (I like to join at a shoulder seam) with a Sl St. Ch 1, Work single crochet stitches evenly around the neckline. Stitch count is not crucial. Join to first Sc with a Sl St. Tie off.

Weave in all ends and get ready to rock your new sweater!
