Aida Shrug

This is a free crochet pattern for kid's crochet shrug called Aida Shrug.


It has photo tutorial in each step to guide your in your crochet journey.

This Aida Shrug size is

length: 21" (left arm - right arm)  X   width 8 1/2" (arm hole)

For size modification, you may repeat the specified multiple stitch count.

Materials Needed

Hook: US F 5  /  3.75MM

Yarn: 1 skein of Red Heart Baby Sheen (between 290 yds  - 300 yds), color Pistachio or your desired color

Tapestry Needle, use for weaving ends.

4" square = 23 sts  /  9  rows of dc

Aida Shrug Instructions

Stitch used is multiple of 3 plus 6 for turning chain. 

Row 1: Foundation chain 105. Cross trc in 6th ch from hook, cross trc across, trc in last st. (33 cross trc) 


Row 2: Ch1, hdc in the same st, hdc in each st across up to last st. (101 hdc)

Row 3: Ch4 (consider as 1st trc), turn, cross trc across, trc in last st.



Row 4-18-: Repeat Row 2 & Row 3 or up to your desired width (arm hole).


Row 19: Ch3, sl st in 1st trc of the other side of the shrug, 


*(cross trc half way, in this time, instead of ch1, use sl st in ch1 sp of next cross trc of the other side of the Aida Shrug, finish off the cross trc to complete cross trc) 3 times*, 


(cross trc in next st) 27 times, rep *to* once more, tr c in last st, sl st to last trc of the other side of the Aida Shrug, do not cut, turn on the side for sleeve edging.

Aida Shrug Sleeve Edging

Edging stitch used is multiple of 3 

Round 1: Ch1, sc in the same st, 3sc in next trc post, (sc in next hdc post, sc in next st join post, 3sc in trc post) around, sc in next join st, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. (51 sc)


Round 2: Ch1, sc in the same st, (ch3, sk 2sts, sc in next st) around, end w/ dc in 1st sc to join. (17 spaces)


Round 3: Ch1, sc in next dc post, (ch3, sc in next 3ch sp) around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 4: Ch1, sc in next 3ch sp, (ch3, sc in next 3ch sp) around, end w/ dc in 1st sc to join.


Round 5: Ch1, sc in next dc post, (dc, picot, dc) in next sc, *sc in next 3ch sp, (dc, picot, dc) in next sc, rep* around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. Fasten Off.

Aida Shrug Bodice Edging

Attach yarn in last cross trc of the bodice, as shown on photo below.


Round 1: Ch1, sc in the same st, sc in each sts around, but having 2sc-tog (dec) on 4 corners, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. ( 162 sc)


Round 2: Ch1, sc in the same st, (ch3, sk 2 sts, sc in next st) around, end w/ dc in 1st sc to join. (54 spaces)

Round 3: Ch1, sc in next dc post, ch4, (sc in next 3ch sp, ch4) around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.



Round 4: Ch1, sc in next 4ch sp, (ch5, sc in next 4ch sp) around, ch2, end w/  dc in 1st sc to join.


Round 5: Ch1, sc in next dc post, ch5, (sc in next 5ch sp, ch5) around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join.


Round 6: Sl st in next 5ch sp, ch1, sc in the same sp, (ch6, sc in next 5ch sp) around, ch3, end w/  dc in 1st sc to join.


Round 7: Ch1, sc in next dc post, [dc, (picot, dc) twice] in next sc, *sc in next 6ch sp, [dc, (picot, dc) twice] in next sc, rep* around, end w/ sl st in 1st sc to join. 


Fasten Off and weave in ends.
