A Very Rainbow Blanket is here! Please, find a free pattern below. For my colorful version I used a Scheepjes Metropolis pack with 80 x 10g mini skeins. But the pattern is a perfect stash buster – you can use all leftovers lying around your house. The pattern can be easily adjusted for any width and height. And you can also mix and match two mosaic patterns according to your taste. Hope you enjoy!

mdc (mosaic double crochet): regular dc worked into skipped/unworked st from 3 rows below in front of chains; chains will stay behind mdc and will be skipped.
Pattern Notes
You can either follow the chart or written instructions.
Use one color for 2 rows unless otherwise instructed and change color at the end of the row in last yo of the last st. Don’t cut the yarn, carry it up to next row. You’ll have floats of yarn along one edge. Make sure they don’t pull or are too loose.
When one color (A or B) is over, attach next one from the list below:

How to Read the Chart
Chart is read from bottom to top. Each row in chart represents two rows of same color. Odd rows are worked on the RS (1, 3, 5, etc) and are read from right to left. Even rows on WS (2, 4, 6, etc) are read back across from left to right. The first square of each row shows which color is used for 2 rows (1-2, 3-4, 5-6, etc).
Each square of the chart shows 1 stitch or 1 skipped stitch. When squares of different color appear in the row, they should be skipped. So instead of working them, make the same number of chs as the number of skipped sts plus 1 ch. For 1 missed st you will have ch2.
On RS rows, when you will crochet with a different color, you will make mdc in these skipped sts from three rows below. Mdc are only worked on RS rows and are always made in front of chains of previous rows, so the ch-sps are always skipped. On WS (even numbered rows) you will only make sc and chs. Please note that sc are made in sts of the previous row, and chs are made over chs.

Row 5: With A. Ch1, 1sc, 2mdc, [ch3, sk 2 sts, 2mdc] rep to last st, 1sc to end, turn.
Row 6: Ch1, 3sc, [ch3, sk sp, 2sc] rep to last st, 1sc to end (change to B), turn.

Rep Rows 5-8 until the desired length of brioche panel. Mine panels are all different in heigh t and measure between 7-18cm.
Row 9: With A. Ch1, 1sc, [2mdc, 2sc] rep across omitting last sc, turn.

Rep Rows 3-18 alternating the height of brioche panels until your blanket measures approx. 2/3 of desired length. If you are using Metropolis pack the blanket will measure approx. 92cm/36.2” at this point. Make 1sc2tog approx. in the middle of last rep of Row 2 – to accommodate new stitch count to multiple of 6 sts + 1 st. Then proceed to Mosaic Panel.

A Very Rainbow Blanket uses a double (or “envelope”) border from a Havana CAL
designed by Tinna Þórudóttir Þorvaldar. Check her
video tutorial on YouTube.
With RS facing you, attach black yarn with ss in any corner. Work with ss evenly around the entire blanket, join with ss in first ss. Continue to work around the blanket inserting hook under two lps of ss as foll: Ch1 (doesn’t count as a st), *(1sc, ch2, 1sc) in corner ss, 1sc in each ss to next corner; rep from * three more times, ss in first sc, fasten off.
With WS facing you, attach black yarn in BL of ss in any corner and continue to work around the entire blanket inserting hook into BL of ss. Rep from * four times, join with ss in first sc, don’t fasten off and continue working with ss through top lps of both sc rnds joining them together. When the join is finished, fasten off and weave in all ends.
