KNITTED CLUTCH — FREE PATTERN

After four years of blogging today is going to be my first DIY post. As you know I am keen on knitting lately. This theme is totally new for me and I’m learning step by step with every challenge. If two years ago somebody said that I would be knitting it would definitely make me laugh. But that’s me and sometimes even I am stunned with my polar interests.

Now I like to test different yarns and its possibilities. T-shirt yarn and the way it looks in different things became a true discovery for me. Years ago my grandma was making rugs of it and now it looks so stylish in different accessories. Such a purse will be a perfect match for spring/summer outfit and will look great with either jeans or a dress. The yarn is interesting as it is so there’s no need for complicated cables or arans.

In this post I’ll share a pattern for clutch only with no chain. But if you are interested I can make a step-by-step guide for maing a chain for it.

Knitted Clutch — pattern

What you need:

2 cones of t-shirt yarn of different colors
9mm knitting needles
1 sewing needle

The bodice of the clutch:

Cast on 31 stiches with the main color.

Row 1 (RS): slip first stich onto the right needle. Knit second stich on the left needle through the back loop but don’t slip the stich. Now knit the first stich on the left needle through the back loop. Slip both stiches onto the right needle. Continue knitting and slipping two stiches at a time till the end of the row.

Row 2 (WS): slip first stich onto the right needle. Purl second stich on the left needle but don’t slip the stich. Now purl the first stich on the left needle. Slip both stiches onto the right needle. Continue purling and slipping two stiches at a time till the end of the row.

Continue rows 1 and 2 for 35 cm.

Bind off the stiches.

Cover:

Missing two stiches from the beginning of the right side cast on 27 stiches with the second color.

Row 1: slip first stich unknitted onto the right needle. Knit all the stiches till the last one. Purl the last stich.

Repeat row 1 for 28 times.

Row 2: On the right side knit two stiches together throught the back loop (decline 1 stich), continue knitting till three stiches left on the left needle. Knit two together through the front loop (decline 1). Purl the last stich.

Knit the next row as Row 1.

Repeat Row 2 and Row 1 once again.

Bind off the stiches.

From the inner side sew the side of the purse.

Braid:

Cut 6 stripes about 60 cm each. With the help of sewing needle pull both ends of the stripes from the inside of the purse (through the side seam) in such a way that you have 12 cords of same size hanging from the outside. Divide them into three parts (4 cords in each) and start making a braid. The length of the braid has to reach till the next side seam. Now take your sewing needle again and pull each cord inside the purse. Tie each cord so that it doesn’t stuck out.
